How we can help
Our
Emergency Medical Assistance Program
began in 1995. Through it, Tidewater Humane has been able to save the lives of hundreds of beloved companion animals whose caregivers found themselves unable to cope with an unexpected and costly veterinary examination or treatment. Our funds are limited for this program, so we encourage caregivers to explore all funding options available to them -- friends, family, co-workers, other organizations. Once the financial status is known, we make arrangements for the person whose animal we are helping to complete a Promissory Note, leave payment checks with us according to our agreed-upon schedule, and refer them to a veterinarian in our network. The veterinarian bills us once the examination/treatment is accomplished, and we deposit the payment checks (one each month on the chosen date). While this service is not offered for free, our immediate assistance insures that a critically ill or injured animal can be seen and evaluated immediately and treatment begun.
Please remember that EMAP does not cover routine veterinary care, grooming, or other non-emergency situations.
